J. Christopher Greenawalt, MD

Dr. Christopher Greenawalt has been a valued leader within the GBMC Hospitalist Group since joining the organization in 2003. A Baltimore County native, he graduated from McDonogh School before earning his bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University. He subsequently received his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2000 and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine through the University of Maryland Medical System in 2003.

Throughout his career, Dr. Greenawalt has been deeply committed to the advancement of hospital medicine and the delivery of exceptional care to hospitalized patients. He has held leadership roles within the Maryland Chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM), a professional organization dedicated to advancing the practice of hospital medicine, and was later recognized as a Fellow of Hospital Medicine (FHM) by the Society.

Dr. Greenawalt served as Assistant Director of the GBMC Hospitalist Group from 2007 to 2013 and was appointed Division Chief in 2018. In addition to leading one of the region’s largest hospital medicine programs, he serves as Vice Chief of Staff at GBMC. He actively contributes to numerous hospital leadership and quality-improvement initiatives while continuing to maintain a strong commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centered care.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Greenawalt enjoys a wide range of interests, including gardening, running, swimming, snow skiing, and the appreciation of classic automobiles.
