About Me
Nicholas J. Karis, MD, FACS, is a board-certified thoracic surgeon specializing in the diagnosis, management, and surgical treatment of diseases affecting the chest, lungs, and esophagus, including lung cancer. With more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Karis is known for his expertise in complex thoracic procedures and his patient-centered approach to care.
Dr. Karis has particular clinical interests in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, lung nodules, mediastinal tumors, emphysema surgery, chest wall reconstruction, and tracheal and esophageal stenting. He works closely with multidisciplinary cancer teams to develop individualized treatment plans that prioritize both clinical outcomes and quality of life for patients.
He earned his medical degree from Chicago Medical School and completed his general surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center of Chicago. Dr. Karis also completed advanced thoracic surgery fellowship training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and additional specialized training in thoracic surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
