High School Student Program - Volunteers at GBMC
Thank you for your interest in the GBMC High School Volunteer Program. Applications for the Summer 2026 program may be submitted online starting on Monday, April 6, 2026.
Each year, GBMC offers students the opportunity to participate in its High School Summer Volunteer program. Students are assigned to a variety of volunteer positions throughout the hospital, including greeting, escorting, nursing support, and retail. Through this program, students are introduced to the healthcare environment, while gaining valuable community service hours required for graduation.
Who can apply?
- Students who are 16 years of age by July 1
- Students entering the 11th or 12th grade in Fall 2025.
Requirements to Volunteer
- Up-to-date immunization and vaccination records; recent test for Tuberculosis
- 2 Letters of reference (one from a teacher or school counselor)
- High School transcript or recent report card
- Students must attend the GBMC High School Preview Night and volunteer orientation training.
Students must be able to volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours per week (one shift) during June, July, and August.
Note: Please consider family plans before applying. Travel, vacation, camps, and family commitments often conflict with the time expectation. Missing one week is understandable, but if you plan to be away for two weeks or more, we will be unable to accept your application.
Placements
Volunteer placements are the responsibility of GBMC Volunteer Services. Placements are based on the organization’s needs, as well as the volunteer’s aptitude and availability. We anticipate having 25-30 openings this summer. We will not be able to accept everyone who applies; therefore, it is essential that all steps are completed to be considered for the program.
