College Student Program - Volunteers at GBMC
GBMC welcomes college students interested in pursuing a career in health care. Students are typically placed in clinical volunteer roles in areas such as post anesthesia care units, outpatient clinics, physical and occupational therapy, and hospital inpatient units. This is a great way to get exposure to healthcare and gain valuable service hours to support graduate school applications.
Who qualifies for the College Student Program?
- Recent high school graduates
- Undergraduates and students preparing for graduate school
- Gap year or career transition students
Requirements to Volunteer
- Up-to-date immunization and vaccination records; recent test for Tuberculosis

Program Expectations:
The college student program is highly competitive. Please consider academic and work schedules before applying. Students working more than 20 hours per week and/or carrying more than a 15-credit academic load with labs find it difficult to successfully meet the expectations of volunteering as outlined below.
- A service commitment of at least six months
- Ability to complete 60 hours of service per semester
- Ability to complete a 4-hour shift at the same time/day each week
- Understanding that volunteering is NOT shadowing – it is a service role.
