Can you describe the transition for you coming to a new country?
My transition was pretty smooth, thanks to the support I received from my nurse manager and preceptors. I felt like I belonged on my unit. The orientation offered was also comprehensive enough for me to fit into my role as a nurse.

What are some of the sacrifices you have made to be here?
Being away from family.

Can you highlight some of the differences between practicing nursing in your previous country and nursing in the United States?
The main difference is documentation. Back in Kenya, we used paper documentation. Here, everything is electronic. The orientation is also much more comprehensive.

What was your nursing specialty in your home country? Does it differ from your specialty here?
I worked on a medical-surgical unit. Here, I’m on a med-surg/tele/oncology unit.

What is the best part about working at GBMC?
I feel appreciated as a team member, and my coworkers are great team players.

What is one fun fact about you?
I love traveling.

I love cooking and trying new recipes.
