Cancer isn't over when it's "over."

And if you have finished your treatments at GBMC's Sandra & Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute, odds are you are grateful to know Felicity Kirby, RN. As an Oncology Nurse Coordinator, Felicity leads the Survivorship program, a key service of Oncology Support Services. She helps patients and families navigate life after cancer treatment with confidence and hope.

This year, at GBMC’s Art of Nursing Awards, Felicity was honored with the Patient and Family Centered Care Award. During the ceremony, Felicity was praised for her compassion and advocacy for her patients and the thoughtful education she provides. In nominating her, a colleague wrote: "Through meaningful relationships, interdisciplinary collaboration and individualized support, she ensures patients feel heard, prepared, and empowered throughout every stage of recovery and survivorship."

In presenting the award, GBMC Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer Angie Feurer, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, said, “This award recognizes nurses whose practice exemplifies exceptional communication, collaboration and deep respect for patients and families as essential members of the care team. Felicity, you live that vision every single day.”

The Patient and Family Centered Care Award was established to recognize those nurses whose practice exemplifies effective communication and collaboration with the healthcare team and who regard the patient/family as the most important team members. This nurse understands that each patient and their family have highly individualized needs and abilities and applies that knowledge when providing patient education and care coordination.
