Planning a trip? Whether you're heading to a remote adventure destination, a tropical beach, or a busy city abroad, your health should travel with you. The infectious disease experts at GBMC offer comprehensive travel medicine services to help you prepare before you go — and recover safely when you return.
Pre-Travel Consultations
Our travel medicine team will work with you one-on-one to build a personalized health plan based on where you're going, how long you'll be there, and what you'll be doing. Every consultation includes:
- A personalized risk assessment based on your destination, trip duration, and planned activities
- Review of your medical history and current medications
- Country-specific health advisories and guidance from the CDC
- A customized travel health plan and documentation for your trip
Travel Vaccinations
We offer a full range of travel vaccines — both routine and specialty — to protect you against illnesses that may not be common at home but are a real risk in certain parts of the world.
Routine Travel Vaccines
- Hepatitis A & B
- Typhoid (oral and injectable)
- Meningococcal ACWY
- Tdap/Td boosters
- Polio booster
Specialty Vaccines
- Yellow Fever* (CDC-designated center)
- Japanese Encephalitis
- Rabies (pre-exposure)
- Cholera (oral)
- Tick-borne Encephalitis
*GBMC Infectious Diseases is a CDC-designated Yellow Fever vaccination center.
Prophylactic Medications
Some destinations require more than vaccines. Our physicians can prescribe preventive medications to reduce your risk of serious illness, including:
- Malaria prophylaxis (atovaquone-proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine)
- Altitude sickness prevention (acetazolamide)
- Traveler's diarrhea treatment kits
Additional Services
We support a wide range of travelers — from students heading abroad to corporate teams traveling internationally to humanitarian workers serving in resource-limited settings.
- Post-travel health evaluations
- Corporate travel health programs
- Missionary and humanitarian worker consultations
- Study abroad and gap year preparation
Consultation Fees
Most travel medicine services are not covered by insurance. Payment is due at the time of service. We accept HSA and FSA cards.
Schedule Your Travel Consultation
Don't wait until the week before your departure — many vaccines require multiple doses over several weeks to be fully effective. We recommend scheduling your travel consultation at least 4–6 weeks before your trip.
