Supporting New Graduate Nurses

This 12-month program is designed to give you foundational tools, resources, competence, and confidence that will carry you throughout your nursing career.

  • Incorporate evidence-based practice into patient care
  • Develop professional communication strategies for collaborative practice
  • 1:1 mentorship and support from program facilitator

Greater Baltimore Medical Center Nurse Residency Program at Greater Baltimore Medical Center is recognized by the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP) as an Industry-Recognized Apprenticeship Program (IRAP).

About Our Program

Supporting the professional development of new graduate nurses, the program is facilitated by expert nurses to include:
  • 3-tiered mentoring and support: peer support in each seminar, a resiliency coach, and a dedication education specialist
  • Dedicated preceptor for duration of unit-based orientation and service-line specific classes to support clinical practice
  • Nurse residents will meet once a month for the first year
  • Nurse residents will complete a performance improvement project, partnering with unit leadership and hospital stakeholders
  • GBMC is a member of the Maryland Nurse Residency Collaborative, a statewide program aimed at providing best practice and a standardized approach to nurse residents
  • Graduation ceremony upon completion of the program that is attended by leaders throughout the organization
