The Story of Dayna Bell

Best and Worst of Times

"It's nothing to worry about," my doctor from another hospital said. However, a few months later, it had grown bigger and so had my worries. I was rechecked by another physician and only three days before my 30th birthday, I was diagnosed with breast cancer...

About Us

Our program works to minimize the emotional impact associated with a diagnosis of breast abnormalities by providing a biopsy of suspicious lesions on the same day, or within 48 hours, of discovery. Because the Center treats both benign and malignant breast conditions, we can perform imaging, cyst aspirations, and minimally invasive breast biopsies onsite. Breast cancer patients can be seen within two days, and all other patients can be seen within five to seven business days.

Mammogram results are usually received on the same day as the test. If necessary, women can undergo additional diagnostic imaging and have a same-day biopsy, the results of which will be provided within 72 hours.

Our state-of-the-art, comprehensive, multidisciplinary care earns top accreditations.

GBMC's Comprehensive Breast Care Center and its affiliated Advanced Radiology Breast Imaging Center have received national accreditation as "centers of excellence." In fact, we are the only hospital in the state with an integrated center, each having independent accreditation from national programs.

The Comprehensive Breast Care Center received full, three-year accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. The Advanced Radiology Breast Imaging Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology's Commission on Quality and Safety and the Commission on Breast Imaging.

Your First Appointment at the Breast Center

When you come to our office, you will meet with your physician, nurses, and other medical staff. Many patients find it helpful to bring a written list of questions about their treatment or course of action.

First Time Visitors, please bring the following with you:
  • Any Mammograms, ultrasounds, MRI films, pathology slides, and reports
  • List of preexisting conditions/medical history
  • Insurance card(s)
  • Referral from your primary care physician (if needed)
  • Pre-authorization (if required by insurance company)
Financial Considerations:
You will need to complete information and insurance forms before seeing a physician. We will file your claim with your insurance company and complete any needed follow-up for your account. Please be aware that if your insurance company rejects your claim, you are responsible for the balance. During your initial visit, you will also be asked to sign an authorization release form. This allows us to send your medical record to others, whom you designate, and only upon your request.

*Please note that all patients who require pre-authorization must have a referral before being seen by a physician.*
