Katelyn Barley’s decision to undergo bariatric surgery in November 2022 came after years of contemplation. Since as early as 2016, she had considered the procedure but was scared to admit that she needed it. When her OB/GYN suggested the surgery again in 2022, the timing felt right as Katelyn looked ahead to getting married and starting a family.

From her very first interaction with GBMC’s Comprehensive Obesity Management Program (COMP), Katelyn knew she was in the right hands. The team provided guidance every step of the way, ensuring she felt supported and confident in her decision. “I have lost 150 lbs, and I do not know how I was even functioning before surgery,” she shares.

A large part of Katelyn’s success can be attributed to the expertise and compassionate care of the GBMC COMP team. The support she received made her feel less alone in her journey, and the guidance on managing her relationship with food has been transformative. “Food no longer controls my life—I had no idea how addicted I was to food until I gained this tool.”

Katelyn's life has completely changed, and she’s now more active and confident about her future. If you’re ready to take control of your health, the GBMC COMP team is here to help. Visit gbmc.org/weightloss to learn more and schedule a consultation.
