While thousands of individuals, foundations, and organizations make the work of the SAFE & DV Program at GBMC possible, there is one extraordinary Baltimore philanthropist whose visionary generosity has shaped the program in profound and lasting ways. Without this transformational support, the SAFE & DV Program would not be possible today. To protect the donor’s anonymity, we recognize this leadership support collectively as The Friends of GBMC.

Through a fund established by this philanthropist, a dedicated group of directors continues to honor that legacy with purpose and compassion. Guided by the founder’s original vision, these directors have challenged GBMC’s leaders to make the SAFE & DV Program a national model of care — a goal realized through their enduring partnership. Their leadership and commitment have strengthened every aspect of the program: expanding community outreach, advancing professional education, and ensuring victims receive comprehensive, compassionate care at no cost in moments of profound vulnerability.

Today, the SAFE & DV Program stands as a national exemplar — its model of care recognized across the country. With encouragement and support from the fund’s directors, GBMC has launched an accessible online platform that extends the program’s reach far beyond the hospital walls; developed a one-stop hub of resources for victims and providers; created a state-of-the-art, patient-centered suite; and advanced the training and professional development of forensic nurses and first responders.

Reflecting on this enduring partnership, the Fund President shared: “It has been enormously gratifying to see work that began as a locally focused effort blossom into a national model for SAFE & DV programs. The Fund has been honored to support GBMC’s multifaceted program that brings health, healing, and hope to victims. GBMC deserves tremendous credit for its thoughtful stewardship of these gifts.”

This quiet yet transformational philanthropy continues to change lives, embodying the belief that health, healing, and hope are the greatest gifts we can give one another.
