Dr. Kruti N. Patel knew from a young age she wanted to become a doctor. She wanted to be helpful in the best way she could. She chose Radiation Oncology because the science and the impact she could have both appealed to her. She is happy to say this career continues to be a good fit.

“In oncology, the job is just so full," she said. "Sometimes it’s full of sadness, full of tragedy. But there is joy in our patient relationships, and very often inspiration. Most patients, no matter what ends up happening with their disease status, fuel motivation. In oncology, we get to work alongside our patients, be a trusted person in their their inner circle as they’re going through what can be the most vulnerable and scary period in their lives.”

As a student, Dr. Patel loved biology and anatomy – both key in radiation oncology. As a physician, she is grateful for the changes that keep coming in her field.

“Our work is technologically advanced, and continues to evolve,” she said.

The pace of progress seems to be increasing, so she and her colleagues have more to offer their patients.

She said, “We continue to work to improve cancer control outcomes as well as quality of life for our patients.”
